ck white and lion's head

i was given the perfect white dress to match with my vintage brown and gold belt! so i decided to take a shot. this vintage belt has a cool gold lion head belt buckle and i was just waiting for the right dress to match. on nicole: calvin klein linen dress, vintage brown & gold belt and warehouse brown studded cuff.

# recently, my shop has gone on a short hiatus. only the thrift store is open with all the crazy goodies that are flying off the virtual racks. haha so thank u to everyone who came to the store even if it's just to browse :) i'm revamping the store, making a few changes and doing alot of sewing/re-styling to get the new vintage pieces ready for the opening! will tell you guys more about it soon.

my new old laura ashley

the "what i wore today" outfit post is a little hard to get done recently considering the fact that i'm usually rushing to head out or when i'm home my hair and face is already in a terrible state to be photographed. haha but i was so happy with my new vintage laura ashley dress i specially made time to get a shot. It looks like polka dots but it's actually squared dots! well, i'm not exactly sure if the word "polka" = "circle". haha

#on nicole: vintage laura ashley dress, vintage agnes b mustard belt, grey wedges from far east, watch from white sands and a gold vintage ring

## shout out (7:24am) : my my got to rush off but just wanted to let you know that the thrift store and uniiko vintage boutique has been updated :) have a great day!

late night show

went to catch a late night show and snapped this picture at the mrt on the way home. we caught the very very last train heading back home. phew! so here's a little outfit post from that night: i'm wearing a vintage silk blouse with cute embroidery drawings on it and a peter pan collar, paired with a pair of vintage pants, my black guess pumps and a vintage ysl bag. i'll be getting more outfit posts shot since i just got myself a lot of vintage pieces that i'm so excited to wear :)

# oh and the thrift store is updated again. this time with menswear. i'll be updating that store alot more from now on, so do keep watch for crazy finds. also the boutique will be holding a special "auction session" for the vintage pieces specially for the Great Singapore Sale. stay tuned!

kl trip part two

day two: i traded my dad's khakis for a city sleek pair of black shorts from cotton on, thew on my beatles tee and added my +J cardigan to smarten up the look (necklace from nicolethen boutique). the interesting part of our day was eating hakka food, which since i'm hakka (a dialect group) was quite interesting. there was way too much food for just the four of us. my favourite was this insanely evil pork slices with fats and everything. it was so good! melts in your mouth and tastes heavenly with rice. alot of locals were eating there too, plus the view of the twin towers was lovely.

hello nostalgia (i love u)

was playing around with my canon s90 nostalgia function and was delighted at the effects it created without any processing! so i started snapping and thus the "many pictures post".

lately, i have been so terribly busy. i'd wake up and start working, break for brunch and then continue, have dinner again and when i reach home i'd start working all over again till late.

one more month marks the one year anniversary since my unofficial graduation and this month marks the 10th month of nicolethen boutique. so you see, to me...it's not exactly a very long period and i'm suprised at how quickly my time was filled up. I couldn't believe i was overworking myself!

So i'm getting some help :)

But i have so much to thank God for. Thank God for my income, the opportunities i have and the wonderful people i meet through this job. Next week, I'm going to be shooting street style shots for 3 consecutive days straight for a local magazine :) the women i'll be shooting must fall into the category of well...women, preferbly working women. haha so i'll be around business areas. it's a little tougher to shoot working women (busy busy busy) but i hope i'll get great shots!will share with you all soon when it's out so you can check them out.

then thursday I'll be heading to KL for the weekend to visit a friend. yay, i like thinking of outfits to bring. haha anyone got any recommendations of what to do at KL? oh oh oh and i'll be getting there by plane. i haven't flew in what feels like forever. so i'm kind of excited!

ps. this is our new residence in the Then Family, his name is Tiger. But my dad says he behaves nothing like a tiger! haha

#on nicole: rocker tee + denim leggings from nicolethen boutique, converse sneakers, topshop canvas tote and a bowler hat from fourskin

say hi to: the indie fashion blog

i was looking for frankie magazine one day at borders and the sales personnel (who was so cool and helpful) asked “Oh, frankie…the indie fashion magazine?” and i was like “YA!…” I never really thought about frankie magazine as an indie fashion magazine but now that he mentioned it, it is so true! they don’t cover the high end designers and while they are commercial (if not they would cease to survive), they are very organic. and i think that’s what i would like my blog to be. an indie fashion blog.

i want Cherry Magazine to feel inclusive instead of exclusive. to talk about fashion not just as clothing and design but as an all rounded reflection of daily activities in our lives. sometimes too much glitz and glamour makes me feel a bit puk-ish and out of place. i love my sneakers, i like meeting friends instead of just business acquaintances and i love not having to be perfect all the time. having said that, you may notice that once in a while,i have some advertorials coming in? i have spoken to my ad manager for the blog and told her that a comfortable advertorial rate would be a maximum of 2 advertorials a month. the ads don't earn me much but are just there to help me supplement my income and sponsor my passion. so i hope you don’t mind them?

so i'm going to stream line my job-scope and focus on blogging relevant content (fashion/beauty/lifestyle), improving my photography portfolio (if you have potential job opportunities please help to recommend me if you think i’m up for the job, haha thank u! my portfolio is here --click) and manage my little online store. ya, a simple life. right now, too many events too many things going on. my head is spinning. and i want to keep things intimate on cherry magazine.

with love,nicole then

old sofa and in blacks

came across this abandoned old sofa and decided to take some pictures with it. well, just for fun i guess even though there wasn't much room to seat on. i'm wearing an old black shirt over my black mini skirt with a beaded necklace. that day i was actually feeling lazy to dress up haha. argh, i'm having a really bad shoulder ache hopefully a warm shower will help.

what do you like to do to relax for the day?

studded grey and vintage pants

somehow i've been really interested in pants after a long skirt or dress stint (just because it's airy, lol). so yesterday, i pulled on this pair of high waisted japanese vintage pants and headed on out to town.

# on nicole: zigged zag cropped top, future state striped skirt (hemmed) and an old Giordano khaki belt + cool vintage badminton racquet that was given to me for free!! (was so happy, lol)

the botanical gardens

chinese new year public holiday i visited the botanical gardens for the first time (that i can remember) with my parents. we were suppose to go there and snap some pictures of nature although i shot a little more than just flowers.haha. it was so relaxing and i enjoyed it very much.

at one time, i was watching my dad take a picture of some flowers when i heard this "knocking" sound. kok-kok-kok-kok. and i turned towards the sound and saw this little squirrel knocking a bright red nut...it would be a lovely picture if i actually took out my camera and remained calm...but ya...i SCREAMED!! hahaha and the little fella ran for his life

i wore this pretty sheer chiffon pastel blouse (preloved) from...some brand {can't remember at the moment} with my vintage high waisted denim shorts and a floral belt my mom bought for me. it's such a pretty belt and perfect for the whole floral botanical garden theme. haha

birthday celebration

on nicole: zara lace blouse, long time thrifted khaki skirt (from ebay), uniqlo checkered shirt (from boyfriend after japan trip, thank u!), brown pleated belt and vintage gucci handbag

ps. someone asked where i got the pleated belt from. unfortunately that belt was once sold on the online boutique. i will try to source for more ya?

i realized i prefer blogging real time. which is why most of the time when i've settled down to blog nothing much comes out. so here's my "real time blogging entry" that night haha

Tuesday 11:30am - just came back from dinner with some friends. we had a pre-brithday celebration for miss s. i wipe off my make up and change into my tees + shorts for bed time. it was so much fun, we laughed like crazy!! when an unwelcomed call came for one of my friends, the rest of us pretended to be at a club (complete with beat boxing and crazy shouting) which eventually led to that caller thinking my friend was drunk and that he should call back later. then we laughed some more over my sis' mistaken attempt to sound like a full-fledge party girl screaming "Let's finish this empty cup of beer!!! (woohoo)". definitely had a good abs work out! tomorrow round 2

roll up your sleeves at hansel

on nicole: loose forever 21 white tee, cream shorts from nicole's vintage shop and vintage green jacket. [i know it's hot, but i got tired of the weather dictating what i can wear and decided to brave the heat]

the sun rays around this traffic light is just gorgeous and i was snapping a picture of that lady wearing a really cool white dress. although it's not that clear, but the bottom of the dress is like a semi circle instead of the usual straight cut. so i thought that was quite interesting and fit for this weather. unique and yet practical ;)

visited the spunky valencia from rollupyoursleeves who is working at hansel (stamford house) which i think is a really cool job. haha, i couldn't make it for the opening party so i thought i'd just visit the shop and look-see.

this wall is actually a fashion time line of jo soh's designs for her label hansel throughout the years. isn't it such a quirky and beautiful idea! i was amazed :)

a bowler's hat

the bowler hat was a gift from my bf and i absolutely love it :) today i'm going to check out the Quest for Immortality exhibition at the Singapore National Museum. Pay by MasterCard and you get 50% discount on the entry ticket. Yay, will try to give a good review about the exhibition. but i'm sure no pictures are allowed, haha so i'll try my best. Got to go send out some parcels now! Have a great monday ;)

the shopkeeper wears 0.1

these days i have been living in shorts and dresses. one particular denim shorts i always wear is this vintage high waisted denim shorts. i didn't photograph the label, but it's really cute! it looks like it's drawn out of crayon and there's a heart as a logo. LOVE! click)

grandma gets a lift

i wore this vintage dorothy perkins dress to malacca and uploaded the picture here (click) but i've shortened it into a little mini frock and i love it so much better! So if you've got a vintage dress that has a grandma-ish length you can try hemming it or take it to the tailors to hem it up.

ps. uniiko boutique does hemming services too for the vintage dresses if you want a particular piece shorted :)

spring flowers and sunshine

i've been into my denims again, this time with this new member of the denim cut off family! she's a high waisted one and has a cute tag with a pink heart crayoned on it. (love) i was a little sick of the shorts for a period of time because i thought they were sloppy. but i'm in such a summery-beach-ice-lemon-tea kind of mood that i'd wear them everyday...i think

on nicole: preloved denim cutoffs, random bracelets, brown pleated belt and zig zag crop sweater from uniiko boutique (old collection) and converse sneakers.
