Bring on the oxymoron of the world because the combinations they bring to the fashion world is a shining beacon of individuality and originality that makes those who believe in matchy-matchy shudder in fear.

Mixing techie whiz with design and art, Brooke is one of those rare individuals that embody oxymoron. Her outward style exudes that same creative personality that combines an eclectic fuse of a nerdy boyish bowl haircut (the kind that small boys were subjected to in Mr Bean's barber chair) and then donning an incredible ensemble of outfits making every outfit shot look like it was out of some fashion editorial spread. Cherry Magazine gets Brooke to take a whack at her keyboard and satisfy our curious pangs.

1. Where do you get most of your inspiration from?

I would say the runway and other style bloggers influence specific-day outfits. Sometimes, I decide to directly channel a runway show/blogger's style and that is how I decide what to wear for that day. Other days, it's probably a mishmash of those two, plus magazine editorials, certain color/texture combinations and random wandering thoughts that subconsciously culminate into an outfit.

2. What is your fashion style? And how is it similar or different from your art?

Whereas I guess my "trademark" is clashing colors/textures and tons of layers, I do try to change it up when I can. One day I pile on the prints, and the next day, I want to be minimalistic. I think that the common denominator behind my "style" is that, while most people try to dress to look "effortless", I make a conscious decision to put together something that -looks- thought-out and calculated. Of course, the "trying too hard" comment is expected, but if you really put a lot of time into deciding what to wear, why not let the effort show?

The same could be said about my art, though certainly on a much less experimental level. I like using bold colors to convey some kind of concept or story -- but in the end, I'm still a total novice, so I'm still stuck in a traditional phase.

3. Who cuts your hair?

Haha, I was never really one to be too attached to my hair. When I want to get it cut, I just go to the cheapest place closest to where ever I am -- the job sometimes isn't too spectacular, but it looks more or less the way I want it to. However, I cut my own bangs -- previous bad experiences have led to this.

4. Any favourite fashion sayings? Or inspirational sayings?

"I have no human feelings", and relatedly, anything that comes out of Karl/Fake Karl Lagerfeld's mouth. Sorry, I'm lame.

5. When did your blog start?

I think it was several months since I got into fashion in 2007, and I was really bored at my summer job, and I thought, "Yes, why not post to my LiveJournal what I wear every day?" I chose the title based on a quote I found somewhere and stuck it on a header even though it wasn't the same as my LJ username (which is a different story altogether). The blog back then was meant to be completely personal -- my using LiveJournal instead of Blogspot is indicative of that. Then one day, I inexplicably started getting a few readers -- I think I commented on a couple other blogs and people traced it to mine -- and it's all built on since then. Of course, looking back on my posts of year(s) back, I flinch in horror -- though essentially, the concept of the blog has remained unchanged.
